Klara Issova

Klara was born in Prague to a Czech mother and a Syrian father in 1979. She started taking drama lessons at the age of six. In 1993 she began to study at the State Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Prague and she passed the graduation exam in 1997. Then she continued acting in the school theatre for another two years while studying pedagogy.

When Klara was 15 she had the opportunity to play a role in Sasa Gedeon's movie Indian Summer. The film was highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike and she was nominated for the prestigious Czech Lion award. Klara won a Czech Lion award for her performance in her second movie, An Ambiguous Report About The End of the World, which was directed by Juraj Jakubisko. She received another nomination for her work in the experimental film Angel Exit. She surprised audiences with her expressive acting in this departure from her previous romantic roles. She has also received several roles in foreign movies, such as: Dune, Children of Dune, Anna Frank - The Whole Story, Rose and Maloney.

Klara had 2 major film projects in 2007: The Rule of Lies and David Ondricek's Grandhotel. She was nominated for another Czech Lion award for her performance in Grandhotel. She was also honored as a Shooting Star at the Berlinale International Film Festival in February.

In 2007 Klara starred in a two-part TV movie called Operation Silver A, a period film about the Czech resistance during the Second World War. She won an Elsa award for this role.

In autumn Klara appeared in Jan Hrebejk's movie, Teddy Bear. She also had an interesting role as an embryologist in Milan Cieslar's TV movie, Stolen Sperm. That year she also had a part in the second Narnia movie, Prince Caspian.

Klara's major project in 2008 was filming 13 episodes of a new TV series, First Step.

In 2009, Klara had the opportunity to work with director Jiri Svoboda in the film Beauty and the Beast, where she played the main role of Dr. Maria. Czech Television will show this film in 2010.

She is also working on a new TV series for children called The Spacek Family in the Web of Time, where she will play several roles at once.

Klara is also performing in a brand new play called Dragon's Lair at the Dejvicke Theatre and in Patrick Marber's play Closer at the Theatre Na Jezerce.

Klara was fortunate to work with the renowned Czech animator Jan Švankmajer on his new film, Survive Your Life. The film’s world premiere will be in at the Venice Film Festival in the fall of 2010.

Currently Klara is rehearsing the play Mefisto, based on the novel by Klaus Mann, at the Palmovka Theatre. She is also filming a TV series, Miracles of Life, for TV Prima.

In her career she has had a main role in ten feature films, made more than 40 TV movies, and played in a great number of theatre productions.
