Biography

Klara Issova

Klara was born in 1979 in Prague to a Czech mother and a Syrian father. She started taking drama lessons at the age of six. In 1993 she began to study at the State Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Prague and in 1997 she passed her graduation exams.

When Klara was 15 she got the opportunity to play a role in Saša Gedeon's movie Indiánské léto (Indian Summer). The film was highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike and she was nominated for the prestigious Czech Lion Award. Klara won the Czech Lion Award for her performance in her second movie, Nejasná zpráva o konci světa (An Ambiguous Report About The End of the World), which was directed by Juraj Jakubisko. She received another nomination for her work in the experimental film Angel Exit. She surprised audiences with her expressive acting in this departure from her previous romantic roles. She has also received several roles in foreign movies, such as: Dune, Children of Dune, Anna Frank - The Whole Story, Rose and Maloney.

Klara had 2 major film projects in 2007: Pravidla lži (The Rules of Lies) and David Ondricek's Grandhotel. She was nominated for another Czech Lion Award for her performance in Grandhotel. She was also honored as a Shooting Star at the Berlinale International Film Festival in February 2007.

In 2007 Klára also starred in a two-part TV movie called Operace Silver A (Operation Silver A), a period film about the Czech resistance during the Second World War. She won the Elsa Award for that role.

Klára appeared in Jan Hrebejk's movie Medvídek (Teddy Bear). In Milan Cieslar’s movie Ukradená spermie (The Stolen Sperm) she played an interesting role as an embryologist. That year she also had a part in the second Narnia movie, Prince Caspian.

Klara's major project in 2008 was the filming of 13 episodes of a new TV series, První krok (The First Step).

Since then, Klára has also acted in two different films, a detective story called Královský slib (The Royal Promise) and a psycho-thriller called Kráska a netvor 1950 (The Beauty and the Beast 1950).

She also worked on a new TV series for children called Špačkovi v síti ztraceného času (The Spacek Family in the Web of Lost Time), where she played several roles at once.

Klara also performed in a play called Dračí doupě (The Dragon's Lair) at the Dejvické Theatre. At present she has an important role as Alice in the world – famous play Na dotek (Closer) by Patrik Marber.

Klara was fortunate to work with the renowned Czech animator Jan Švankmajer in his new film, Přežít svůj život( Survive Your Life). The film’s world premiere took place at the Venice Film Festival in the fall of 2010.

Currently Klara performs in the play Mefisto, based on the novel by Klaus Mann, at Palmovka Theatre. She also played in a TV series Zázraky Života (Miracles of life) for Prima TV.

In her career she played primary roles in ten feature films, made more than 40 TV movies, and performed in a great number of theatre productions.

Klára has been active in several directions such as acting in TV movies, feature films, theatre performances as well as dubbing.
